What is Making Tax Digital (MTD)?
Making Tax Digital is HMRC’s move toward a more digital tax system. If you’re affected, you’ll need to keep digital records and send regular updates to HMRC using approved MTD-compatible software.
Digital record keeping
Move away from disconnected paper/spreadsheets and maintain compliant digital records in approved software.
Quarterly updates
Regular submissions help you stay on track and reduce last-minute tax surprises at year end.
Year-end finalisation
We complete final adjustments and the end-of-year declaration to confirm your tax position accurately.
When does MTD for Income Tax start?
The rollout is phased. If your combined income from self-employment and/or property meets the thresholds, you’ll likely need to comply.
From April 2026
Individuals with combined self-employment and/or property income over £50,000.
From April 2027
Individuals with combined self-employment and/or property income over £30,000.
